Henley Fluted Walnut Chest of Drawers: Solid Walnut, Made in Dubai

A low, wide six-drawer chest of drawers in solid American black walnut, with fine half-round fluting running across the drawer fronts and wrapping around both sides. The fluting is cut from the solid, not applied, so the ribs line up from drawer to drawer and catch the light the way only real wood can.

Where it works

At 180 cm wide the Henley is sized to sit under a window, beneath a television, or along a bedroom wall as a dresser with a mirror above. In the UK it is a wide chest of drawers; in the US the same piece is a dresser. It also works as a sideboard in a dining room or as a media console in a living room. We can match the fluting on a nightstand, bed headboard, wardrobe doors or TV unit so the whole room reads as one collection.

Fluting wraps the sides; the front corners are radiused

Why solid American walnut

American black walnut is the darkest of the temperate hardwoods and the one most prized for fine furniture. Its colour runs from warm chocolate to a lighter honey sapwood and it ages to a mellow amber rather than fading. We use kiln-dried FAS-grade boards and a natural hardwax oil, so the grain stays open to the touch and marks can be spot-repaired rather than refinished. Walnut is also stable in Dubai's air-conditioned interiors, which matters for a piece with this much fluting.
