UK vs UAE Bed Sizes: King, Super King & Mattress Sizes in Dubai Explained
Quick answer: UK and UAE bed sizes use the same words for different beds. A UK king is 150 x 200 cm, while a king in the UAE is 180 x 200 cm. A UK super king is 180 x 200 cm, which is the size sold as a king in Dubai, and a UAE super king is a full 200 x 200 cm. Always check the size in centimetres, not the name, before you order a bed frame or mattress in Dubai.
If you have moved to Dubai from the UK, or you are shipping a mattress or bedding over, this is the single most expensive mix-up we see. A British couple orders a "king" frame in Dubai, and it arrives 30 cm wider than the king bed they had at home. Or they bring their UK super king mattress and buy a UAE super king frame, and the mattress sits in a frame 20 cm too wide.

Bed sizes in the UAE follow the metric sizes used across the Gulf and much of Europe and Asia. These are the sizes you will find in most Dubai furniture and mattress shops:
Single: 90 x 190 or 90 x 200 cm
Queen: 160 x 200 cm
King: 180 x 200 cm
Super king: 200 x 200 cm
UK vs UAE bed sizes: side-by-side
UK double (135 x 190 cm) has no exact UAE equivalent. The nearest is a UAE queen (160 x 200 cm), which is 25 cm wider and 10 cm longer.
UK king (150 x 200 cm) is 10 cm narrower than a UAE queen and 30 cm narrower than a UAE king.
UK super king (180 x 200 cm) is exactly the same size as a UAE king (180 x 200 cm).
UAE super king (200 x 200 cm) is 20 cm wider than a UK super king and has no UK equivalent.
In short: if you are used to a UK super king, buy a UAE king. If you are used to a UK king, a UAE queen is the closest standard size, or have the bed made to 150 x 200 cm.
Bringing a UK mattress or bedding to Dubai

Bedding is the other trap. UK fitted sheets, duvets and duvet covers are cut for UK mattresses, so a UK super king fitted sheet will fit a UAE king mattress, but a UK king fitted sheet will not. A UAE super king (200 x 200 cm) needs bedding sold specifically for that size.
Which size should you choose for a Dubai bedroom?
Apartment master bedrooms in areas like Dubai Marina, JLT and Downtown usually suit a UAE queen or king, leaving room for two bedside tables.
Villa master suites in Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills or the Palm usually take a UAE super king (200 x 200 cm) comfortably.
Guest rooms and children's rooms often work best with a UAE queen, or a single for younger children.
Remember the frame is always bigger than the mattress. An upholstered bed with a wide headboard can add 20 to 40 cm to the width, so measure the wall as well as the floor.
