Rattan Garden Furniture in Dubai: A Buyer's Guide for the UAE Climate

If you have just moved to Dubai from the UK, you probably furnished your last garden with rattan — it is Britain's default garden furniture style. Search for it here, though, and you will find mostly marketplaces and importers. At Adams Furniture, we make rattan and woven garden furniture in our own Al Quoz workshop, alongside the teak garden furniture we are known for.

Does rattan survive the Dubai climate?

This is the question that matters. Natural rattan is a tropical vine — it handles heat well but dislikes direct year-round sun, which dries and cracks the weave. The answer for Dubai is placement and material: natural rattan and cane thrive in covered terraces, pergolas and shaded majlis areas, while for open pool decks we build with synthetic all-weather weave or teak-and-rattan combinations, where a solid teak frame carries the woven detail and shrugs off the sun.

Rattan vs wicker vs cane — a quick note

British and American shoppers use these words interchangeably, but they differ: rattan is the material (the vine), wicker is the weaving technique, and cane is the thin peeled skin of rattan used for finer work like chair backs and sideboard doors. Whichever word you searched for, the look you want is the same — and we build all three.

Why buy rattan garden furniture from a Dubai workshop?

Imported rattan sets are sized for European patios and shipped in containers for weeks. Because we manufacture and upholster in Al Quoz, you choose the exact set configuration, frame finish and outdoor-grade cushion fabric, and receive it in weeks — with a workshop down the road if a cushion ever needs recovering. Care tips for the UAE

Keep natural rattan out of direct summer sun where possible, dust the weave with a soft brush, and wipe with a barely damp cloth — never soak it. Synthetic weave just needs a hose-down. Store cushions indoors over the hottest months and both will comfortably outlast an imported flat-pack set.
