What is a concealed jib door?

A jib door is a door that is flush with the surrounding wall surface. It is built to match the wall finish exactly — whether that is paint, wallpaper, panelling, or plaster — so that it becomes virtually invisible when closed.

Unlike a standard door, which sits in a visible frame and typically has a door handle, a jib door uses a pivot mechanism, a magnetic push-to-open system, or a finger pull recessed into the edge. The result is a wall that appears uninterrupted until you know where to look.

Where do concealed doors work best in a Dubai villa?

In Dubai homes, concealed jib doors are most commonly used for: utility rooms and laundry rooms that would otherwise interrupt a clean hallway; home studies or offices that are accessed from a living room or master suite; bedrooms that open onto an open-plan space; walk-in wardrobe entrances within a bedroom; and powder rooms and bathrooms in entertainment areas.

How we build concealed doors in Dubai

Every jib door we build starts with the wall finish. We need to know whether the surrounding surface will be painted plaster, panelled oak or another wood species, wallpapered, or lacquered MDF. The door leaf is built to match that finish exactly.

The frame is built into the wall during the joinery fit-out phase. We use a pivot hinge system for most applications — it allows the door to open smoothly with no visible hinge and no frame gap. For very large doors or doors that need to carry weight (such as a door with integrated shelving on the back), we use heavier-duty pivot hardware rated to the load.

The door is then finished to match the wall. Where the wall is painted, the door is painted the same colour and texture. Where the wall is panelled, the door is panelled to continue the same groove pattern. From a metre away, the join is invisible.

One of the most popular configurations we build in Dubai is a concealed door that opens to reveal a hidden utility space or walk-in storage room, with built-in shelving on the back of the door itself. This is a practical solution for homes where every square metre matters.
